This reputable engineering group has performed well throughout the Pandemic. They have increased both their revenues and their net profitability.

With hindsight, however, the Executive Board realise that the Company’s success was very much driven by a specific opportunity that presented itself within their sector.

Performance should have been even better, and the lack of financial controls, financial insight and financial challenge were partly to blame for the relative underperformance.

The current FD is retiring from the business. The Financial Controller has performed well but does not have the experience to operate at Board level and drive the depth of analysis, understanding and planning that is needed for this business to thrive in their New World.

To evolve, post-Pandemic, the leadership team needs much greater strategic and commercial bandwidth. This need has been identified both internally by the Owner and externally by the bank and the auditors.

The required changes will be delivered with the recruitment of a more commercially focused and experienced Finance Director.

Candidates will likely be based in Yorkshire with extensive manufacturing or engineering experience within an Owner Managed environment. You must be ICAEW / ICAS, ACCA or ACMA accredited and able to demonstrate a hands-on and commercially nimble approach to business.

The “easy-wins” are important but without longer term planning and a rational assessment of opportunities, the business will never know if they are on the most appropriate growth trajectory.

Although there are no immediate plans to include equity in the remuneration package, the Owner is looking towards an exit within 3-5 years by which point the Finance Director would hold shares within the business.

In the meantime, there is a great salary and benefits package on offer which will include a car, bonus, pension and LTIPs.
