Community Transport is a charity which helps to transform lives by providing accessible transport within local communities. Under the brand of CT Furniture, they provide items of donated and bought in furniture for sale through a chain of retail shops in the West Midlands and North-East.

The retail income is used to support CT Passenger which provides accessible transport to people who experience disability, limited mobility or are unable to use conventional and/or public transport.

In 2021, the Community Transport minibuses and vans covered c750,000 miles and provided a significant, and evolving, range of services to their communities. Despite the mileage, the charity remained carbon neutral by recycling over 600 tonnes of furniture.

With recent growth and significant ambitions for the future, Community Transport are looking to appoint a forward thinking, commercially minded, Finance Director.

Responsibilities

The Finance Director will work proactively across the charity to evolve the financial controls environment and identify key areas and opportunities for efficiency and expansion. They have an exceptional operation and a very capable and highly engaged team of employed staff and volunteers but there is a need for additional control, insight and challenge, as new options for growth become apparent.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of energy, exceptional people skills and a real desire to develop the charity’s services into the future. The role will report directly to the Chief Executive and will have a close working relationship with the Operations Director as well as the individual, onsite, teams. Building relationships will be a key part of your success and this will certainly involve a willingness to visit the different sites. Hybrid working will also be an option.

Qualifications

You must be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ACMA) and although you will be assisted by a small but very capable finance team, a hands-on familiarity with the accounts will be fundamental to your success.
